I believe we already hold everything we need within us — sometimes it just feels like we’re searching in the dark. When that happens, I can hold the flashlight for a while.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Meet Sue
Hi, I’m Sue – Your Guide at GPS Wellbeing
I’m a counsellor based in Mareeba (and online), passionate about helping people navigate life’s messier moments—like when you’re searching for the elusive “manual” (or maybe a refund?🙈). Whether you’re an adult wrestling with overwhelm or self-doubt, a couple struggling to reconnect, a parent managing big emotions with your kids, or a teen figuring out who you are, I’m here to offer a safe, non-judgmental space to explore, understand, and heal.

I get it—because I’ve been there. Co-parenting after divorce, raising two spirited wildlings, and navigating life’s big shifts have shown me that it’s not about pushing through or forcing calm. It’s about accepting yourself as you are, understanding what’s driving the challenges, and finding practical tools—like communication strategies or emotional regulation techniques—that work for you, alongside deeper healing to create a life that feels more connected and whole. With professional training and lived experience, I bring empathy and real-world insight to every session.

Parenting through intense moments and family dynamics has taught me firsthand how complex life can feel. I’ve walked paths of burnout, self-doubt, and rebuilding, so I deeply relate to feeling off-balance or disconnected. My training as a counsellor, paired with this lived experience, shapes how I support you—whether through individual sessions, couples work, or family-focused strategies.

Ongoing Individual Counselling
A space to pause, breathe, and untangle what’s been weighing you down. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, our work together is about understanding what’s beneath the surface — not just managing symptoms. I draw on trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and practical approaches to help you build insight, emotional regulation, and self-compassion. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to reach out. You just need to be ready to explore what’s really going on — and start creating a life that feels more like you.
(Includes ADHD-specific counselling and coaching for adults seeking understanding, structure, and self-acceptance.)
Relationship Counselling
Relationships can be both our greatest comfort and our biggest challenge. Whether you’re navigating constant miscommunication, feeling emotionally disconnected, or simply wanting to reconnect, counselling offers a supportive space to rebuild understanding and trust. My approach helps couples slow things down, hear each other differently, and find ways to work together rather than against each other.
I also offer a three-session Relationship Check-In — a focused program designed to strengthen connection, improve communication, and get clarity on where you’re heading together.
Workshops, Group Training and Workplace Training
From community workshops to workplace wellbeing programs, I offer engaging, practical sessions that blend research and theory, lived experience, and real-world tools. Topics may include emotional regulation, ADHD awareness/strategies, communication and boundaries, or burnout prevention. I love collaborating with local groups and organisations to build understanding and support healthier, more connected communities.

My Background and Experience
A Little About Me
Hi, I’m Sue — a Level 3 ACA-registered counsellor with a Master’s in Guidance and Counselling. I’m passionate about helping people make sense of life’s challenges, reconnect with themselves, and move toward the kind of life that feels right for them.
A Winding Path to Counselling
My career hasn’t been a straight line — more a winding path that’s taught me a lot about people, growth, and change. I started out with a Bachelor of Economics and spent my early years as a stockbroker before realising my heart was elsewhere. That realisation led me into education, where I completed a Graduate Diploma in Education and taught both high school and primary students.
Finding My Direction
Over time, my curiosity about people’s stories and inner worlds grew stronger. I went on to complete a Master’s in Guidance and Counselling, which opened the door to work in the not-for-profit sector supporting disengaged youth, and later, into school counselling and student support roles.
I then expanded my focus with a Graduate Certificate in Career Counselling, which led to work as a university careers counsellor and online educator. I’ve also had the privilege of supporting individuals affected by domestic violence, both in-person and online — experiences that have deeply shaped my trauma-informed, compassionate approach to counselling.
Private Practice and Purpose
In the past decade, my focus has shifted more fully into private practice — a transition inspired by my own ADHD diagnosis and life with my two spirited wildlings. Under the GPS banner, I’ve had the privilege of working with EAPs, offering ADHD coaching, and connecting with so many incredible clients — individuals and couples — each with their own story, courage, and capacity for growth.
A Final Word
I truly believe that change happens through connection, curiosity, and compassion. If you’re ready to explore what’s possible for you, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you on that journey.
